Protect Your Trash From Prying Eyes
The Romans called it "res derelicta." Kindergarteners call it "finders keepers, losers weepers." What it means is that once something is considered abandoned and therefore has no owner, anyone can claim it by simply taking possession of the object. If you throw away your trash in a public place, it's considered "abandoned" and you no longer have reasonable assumption of ownership or privacy according to the law. This is pretty clear when it comes to a park, for example, but the street curb may fall into this category, too.
